PVA / White Wood Glue is a water-based polyvinyl acetate adhesive widely used in woodworking for its ease of use, strong bond on porous substrates and clean-drying white appearance.
Key Characteristics:
Composition: Emulsion of polyvinyl acetate in water, sometimes fortified with resins for improved moisture resistance.
Viscosity & Clamping: Medium-viscosity “squeeze” formula fills small gaps; requires clamping pressure for best results.
Open Time: Typically 5–10 minutes of working time before initial set; full cure in 24 hours depending on temperature and humidity.
Dry Appearance: Dries opaque to translucent white; sands smooth without gummy residue.
Moisture Resistance: Standard PVA is water-soluble when wet (“interior grade”); cross-linked or “Type II/III” variants offer limited water-resistance for light exterior use.
Cleanup: Easily thinned or removed with water before cure; cured film can be sanded or painted over without special preparation.
Common Uses:
Edge-Joining Boards: Gluing panel stock, tabletops and door rails for seamless joints.
General Wood Assembly: Bonding frames, carcasses, dowels and trim in furniture and cabinet making.
Veneering & Laminating: Adhering veneer sheets to substrates or laminating plywood layers.
Crafts & Model-Making: Securing balsa, MDF, paper and porous materials in hobby work.
Interior Millwork: Fitting mouldings, architraves and skirtings where a fast-drying, sandable adhesive is required.
