The AirCraft 1/4" BSP In-Line Water Trap/Filter | SG F180-1 is a compact compressed-air filtration component designed to separate moisture, oil and other contaminants from the airflow. By filtering compressed air before it reaches downstream pneumatic equipment, the unit helps provide a cleaner air supply for compatible air tools and installations.
During air compression, moisture and oil can become present in the compressed-air supply. The in-line water trap/filter helps separate these contaminants from the airflow, making it an important component in compressed-air preparation systems. Its 25-micron particulate filter provides filtration, while the rated airflow of 1278 L/min supports compressed-air applications within the unit's specified capacity.
The filter features a compact, modular design that makes installation straightforward. Visible directional arrows on the outer casing indicate the correct installation orientation, ensuring the filter is fitted in accordance with the direction of airflow. Additionally, the unit allows easy bowl removal and filter element replacement, simplifying routine maintenance.
A manual drain allows collected fluid to be discharged from the filter. The drain also incorporates a push-in fitting, enabling fluid to be directed to a central drainage point using compatible polyurethane (PU) tubing. This tubing is not included and must be obtained separately if remote drainage is required.
Constructed with polycarbonate material, the filter has a maximum working temperature of 60°C and features 1/4" BSP threaded connections. Its small design makes it a practical choice for compressed-air installations where effective moisture separation and convenient maintenance are required.
Compressed-air systems can contain moisture, oil and other contaminants that need to be separated from the airflow. The AirCraft In-Line Water Trap/Filter performs this filtration function before the air reaches downstream equipment.
The unit incorporates a 25-micron particulate filter. Filter micron ratings indicate the size of particles the filtration element is designed to capture. Finer filtration can produce cleaner air; however, smaller micron ratings can also introduce greater airflow restriction. Selecting an appropriate filter therefore involves considering both the required air cleanliness and the airflow requirements of the equipment.
The filter uses a manual drainage system for removing collected fluid. A push-in fitting is located at the drain outlet, allowing compatible PU tubing to be connected when fluid needs to be directed towards a central drainage point.
This provides flexibility when arranging drainage within a compressed-air installation. PU tubing is not supplied with the filter.
The compact, modular construction simplifies installation in compatible compressed-air lines. Directional arrows on the casing indicate the correct airflow direction and should be followed when fitting the filter.
For maintenance, the design allows easy removal of the filter bowl and replacement of the filter element. Regular inspection and drainage help maintain the filter's intended moisture-separation function.
Compressed-air preparation systems may use filters, pressure regulators and lubricators individually or in combination. Each component performs a different function in preparing compressed air for pneumatic equipment.
A filter separates moisture and other contaminants from compressed air. Filters are available with different micron ratings, depending on the required level of filtration. Although finer filtration can improve air cleanliness, it may also increase airflow restriction.
In a compressed-air preparation system, the filter is installed first so that moisture and contaminants can be separated before the air passes through downstream preparation components.
A pressure regulator adjusts the air pressure supplied to pneumatic tools and equipment. Different air tools and applications require different operating pressures for optimal performance.
Where a filter is installed, the regulator is positioned after the filter. Equipment that is particularly sensitive to pressure may require an additional regulator closer to the point of use.
A lubricator introduces fine droplets of pneumatic oil into the compressed-air stream to lubricate the internal components of equipment that requires oil lubrication.
Not all pneumatic tools require lubricated air. For example, spray guns and air dusters do not require a lubricator. Where lubrication is necessary, the lubricator should be installed after the filter and within 15m of the air tool's point of use.
Installing a filter after a lubricator can cause the filter to remove the pneumatic oil introduced by the lubricator, reducing the intended lubrication effect.
