Collection: G-Clamps

G-Clamps—also commonly called C-clamps—are versatile screw-driven clamps shaped like the letter “G” (or “C”) that apply steady pressure via a threaded spindle. They’re a staple in both woodworking and metalworking for holding workpieces securely during machining, assembly or glue-ups.

Key Characteristics:

  • G-Shaped Frame: A robust cast-iron or steel body forms the “G” shape, with one fixed jaw at the top of the frame and one movable jaw on the screw spindle.

  • Threaded Pressure Screw: A long, fine-pitch screw advances the movable jaw in precise increments, converting rotational torque into high clamping force.

  • Swivel or Flat Pressure Pad: The end of the screw often has a swivel pad (to accommodate angled surfaces) or a flat pad (for broad, even pressure).

  • T-Bar or Handle: A cross-bar or handle at the end of the screw gives leverage for tightening or releasing.

  • Variable Throat Depths & Capacities: Available in sizes from very small (50 mm throat) up to large heavy-duty models (300 mm or more), allowing workpieces of different widths to be clamped.

Common Uses:

  • Woodworking: Holding pieces for sawing, routing or edge-joining during glue-ups.

  • Metal Fabrication: Securing plate or bar stock for drilling, welding or grinding tasks.

  • Assembly & Repair: Acting as a temporary vise for holding components squarely when fitting or fastening.

  • Jig & Fixture Making: Serving as a built-in clamp on custom benches or sleds.

  • General DIY & Hobby: Any application where firm, steady pressure is required without specialised equipment.
