Rustins Shellac Sanding Sealer is expertly formulated from pure shellac and alcohol, with an added component that facilitates easy sanding when dry. This versatile sealer is suitable for all types of wood, making it ideal for sealing surfaces prior to French polishing or waxing. It also effectively seals wood dyes, preventing bleeding and ensuring a flawless finish. Whether used as a preparatory coat or as a finish in its own right, this product enhances the appearance and durability of wooden surfaces.
Type: Flake shellac dissolved in alcohol
Intended Use: Suitable for sealing all types of wood prior to French polishing, waxing, or as a finish
Special Features: Contains additives to ease sanding when dry
Preparation: Wood should be clean and smooth; fill open grain with Rustin’s Grain Filler; clean furniture with white spirit and fine wire wool
Application: Apply liberally with a brush or pad; rub lightly with glass paper between coats
Coats: Apply two coats for sealing or multiple coats for a finish
Drying Time: 1–2 hours depending on temperature and humidity
Re-coating Time: 2 hours depending on temperature and humidity
Application Temperature: 15–25°C (59–77°F) in a warm, dry atmosphere
Coverage: 13–15 sq. metres per litre (140–161 sq. ft per litre)
Maintenance: Wipe with a damp cloth or mild non-abrasive detergent; avoid harsh cleaning agents
Compatibility: Compatible with Rustin’s Wood Dye; can be waxed after sealing
Settlement: Shake thoroughly before use
Shelf-life/Storage: Long-lasting when stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry place
Hazards: Highly flammable and harmful; avoid inhalation, ingestion, or contact with skin and eyes
Clean-Up: Clean equipment with Methylated Spirits while wet
