Rustins White Knotting is a premium solution designed for sealing knots, resinous, and creosoted timber. Made with bleached shellac, it prevents the bleeding of resin through paint films, keeping your wood finishes clean and vibrant. The product is ideal for use on bare wood, and once applied, it dries quickly to create a solid base for priming and painting. Rustins White Knotting is suitable for both interior and exterior use and ensures that your paint job remains free from discoloration caused by resinous knots. Simply apply liberally to the affected areas and allow the product to dry before priming.
Type: Bleached shellac based
Intended Use: Seals knots and resinous wood before priming and painting
Special Features: Fast drying; prevents paint discoloration
Preparation: Clean, bare, and smooth sanded surface; remove excess resin using a heat gun if necessary
Application: Apply liberally with a brush over knots and surrounding area
Coats: Apply 2 coats; do not sand after application
Drying Time: Allow 1 hour between coats
Re-coating Time: Allow 1 hour after the final coat before priming
Application Temperature: Ideally 15-25°C (59-77°F); do not use below 10°C (50°F) or in high humidity
Coverage: 10-12 m² per litre (107-129 ft² per litre) for 1 coat, depending on surface absorbency
Maintenance: Not applicable
Compatibility: Do not use under water-based varnish, stains, or paints; use an oil-based primer before applying water-based coatings
Shelf-life/Storage: Long shelf life when stored in a tightly closed container in normal conditions

Clean-Up: Clean equipment with Methylated Spirits; use Rustins Strypit to remove dried films
