Umthi Juice - Wood, Bone, Leather & Stabilizing Resin ("Cactus Juice")

Industrial grade heat cured impregnation resin for porous natural materials. Umthi Juice is used to make porous materials stable and resistant to moisture and adverse conditions.

Umthi Juice is non-flammable.

Vacuum chambers and tools can be cleaned with water and soap.

PROCESS:

1. Place the material to be stabilized in a vacuum chamber and weigh down so that the wood does not rise once the resin is added.
2. Add the resin to about 25 mm above the items. (check that this level is maintained at all times as the wood will absorb the resin and the level will drop)
3. Draw the vacuum continuously until the bubbles stop.
4. Release the vacuum and leave the items in the resin, topping up the resin level to make sure the items are always covered.
5. Leave the items in the resin for twice as long as it took for the bubbles to stop. I.e. if you vacuum for two days then the soak time would be four days, the longer the better. I always add a day.
6. Remove the items from the resin place in a drip tray and then wrap in tin foil to prevent resin from bleeding onto your oven floor.
7. Bake in oven at a temperature of 90 degrees Celsius until the resin is cured.

This could be anything from 1 hour to 5 hours depending on the size of the item.

WARNING: gloves and a respirator must be worn when adding the activator. The activator is in powder for and should not be inhaled
